Who We Are

Who We Are

Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church consists of members from Stanley and the surrounding areas. Interest in having a Free Lutheran Church in Stanley began in early 1981. On July 12, 1981, worship services were held at the Seventh Day Adventist church with 91 people attending. In September of that same year, Sunday School classes began with the help of the Free Lutheran Church in Tioga. On January 24, 1982, we held our first annual meeting with 21 families signing our charter membership. Gary Jorgenson accepted the pastoral call and was installed at Our Savior's on October 3, 1982. During this time, construction on a building was coming to a close, allowing the first service at Our Savior's to take place on September 6th, 1982. We continued to grow and welcomed many visitors and guests from various areas. In March 1988, First English of Lostwood joined the AFLC and became the sister church of Our Savior's.

Pastor Rodney Johnson was issued a call after Pastor Jorgenson accepted a call to a Home Mission church in Illinois. He accepted the call and began ministering to the congregation in January 1990. The church continued to grow, allowing for the addition of a larger fellowship hall and a Sunday School wing. Through God's provision, the mortgage was burnt in August of 1998.

In July of 2020, Pastor Rodney Johnson stepped down as the senior pastor, and assumed the role as our visitation pastor. Pastor Erin Tormanen accepted the pastoral call and was installed at Our Savior’s on August 20th 2020. Pastor Rodney served as our visitation pastor until December of 2022.

Many different ministries take place on a weekly basis at Our Savior's as we continue to reach out with the love of Jesus Christ to those in our community and surrounding areas.

What We Believe

What We Believe

What We Believe

What We Believe

We believe:

  1. The Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God
  2. Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone
  3. The Christian congregation has no authority over itself but the Word and Spirit of God
  4. A wholesome Lutheran pietism, with believers being the salt and light in the community

This congregation believes and confesses that the Holy Scriptures, the canonical books of the Old and the New Testaments, are the Word of God, revealed for the salvation of men, and therefore, in union with Baptism and the Lord's Supper, are the only source and rule of faith, doctrine, and life in the congregation

This congregation accepts and adheres to the Apostolic, the Nicene, and the Athanasian Creeds, as well as the Unaltered Augsburg Confession and Luther's Small Catechism. All preaching and teaching in the congregation conforms to this.

The public worship of this congregation, as well as the ministerial acts performed, will be conducted in conformity with the altar-book and rituals recommended by the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations when the same have been endorsed by this congregation.

This congregation affiliates with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations, endorses its Guiding Principles and Rules for Work, and supports its benevolences, that is, missions at home and abroad, Christian education and charities.
